Odeon Cinema Fire Evacuation

On Saturday 12th November 2016, almost 250 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorer Scouts, Leaders and helpers from 9 Groups from the District attended this year’s ‘Cinema Evacuation’.

We all arrived at the Riverside Odeon and at 8.30 a.m. were allowed into the Cinema where we were split into three different screens.  The alarm was set off, the cinema staff entered to ask us to leave by this nearest exit and everyone gathered outside the front of the cinema building.  Once the staff had confirmed that everyone was evacuated, we were asked to make their way back into the cinema.  Once we had settled down into our seats again we were treated to a viewing of a film as a ‘thank you’ for taking part in the fire evacuation.

When the film was announced as “The BFG” lots of children and adults let out a cheer.  The film was brilliant; it was a bit scary at the start and some of the younger children looked a bit concerned, but when the BFG (Big Friendly Giant) started talking with his silly sounding words everyone began to smile.

Their favourite scene was towards the end of the film when the BFG had tea with the Queen and offered everyone “ Whizpopping Frobscottle” (where the bubbles float downwards).  The anticipation of what was to happen next had roars of laughter travelling through the cinema; it was a fantastic sound to hear.  If you want to know what happened you need to watch the film – it was very funny!!

Thanks to the cinema staff and all of the leaders and helpers who gave up their Saturday morning to help and support this popular event
