A Special Day at Windsor

A Special Day at Windsor

After achieving my Queens Scout Award in 2015, I attended the National Scout St Georges Day Parade at Windsor Castle in April 2016 to celebrate my award.

After the event I was able to apply to “Take Centre Stage” which is a selection process to choose the members of the Colour Party for the next event.  I was successful in my applicaion and was shortlisted, meaning that I could attend a selection event in London.

At the selection weekend the Queen’s Scouts took part in many different team building tasks such as making a society presentation for a University Fresher’s Fair, the “egg drop challenge” and making a marble run. We each had to prepare a short speech and make a presention on something we were passionate about. We then spent a lot of time marching up and down a Scout HQ drive, learning commands and drill. I was extremely lucky to be one of 6 selected for the Colour Party for the 2017 Queens Scout event at Windsor.

Leading up to St George’s Day 2017 the training continued over four weekends in Windsor, mostly at the Victoria Barracks. There I met Bear Grylls and Tim Kid and was proud to be chosen to carry the scout colours representing the UK.  It was an unforgettable experience, where 10 people met with the common interest and left as life-long friends.  I can not thank enough, those who made this experience possible.

I would encourage all young people to gain their Queens Scout Award and maybe one day they too will be lucky enough to “Take Centre Stage”.

Finally I would like to congratulate the Queen’s Scouts from Norfolk, including Sophie Page from Northern Norwich, who took part in the Parade onb the 23rd April.
