District Success in County Archery Competition

On Saturday 2nd July 2016 the District entered two teams in the County Archery Competition which was held on The Stody Estate, Melton Constable. There were a total of 10 teams taking part, representing 6 Districts from across the County, all with the aim of winning the trophy.

The weather was cloudy with sunny periods, but there was a strong breeze for the majority of the day and we did have one short spell of rain.  Despite this the competition carried on.

Our two teams were:

Team A

Thomas Green (27th Norwich), Oliver Simpson (2nd Hellesdon), Ryan Dearden and Joel Starling (1st Horsford & St Faiths), Oliver Bool (1st Drayton) and William Dingle (11th Norwich).

Team B

Robert Haines and Emily Dyble (1st Horsford & St Faiths), Ellen Sendell (3rd & 4th Norwich), Anastasia Killow (16th Norwich) & Owen Carrgilson (2nd Hellesdon).

The teams competed in two rounds shooting a total of 12 arrows over distances of 10m & 15m.  Each team member was scored on their 8 best arrows over the two rounds.

At the end of the day the results were in and all the teams and their respective supporters gathered in the Estate Office for the presentations.  When the results were announced by Trevor Orford, Assistant County Commissioner (Scouts), Northern Norwich were delighted to hear that in the main competition their “B” Team came second, just being pipped by the “A” Team who were the overall winners.

Emily Dyble also came second in the Highest Individual score competition.  A fantastic acheivement and well deserved.

Thanks to the Scouts for taking part, their parents for getting them to the competition, Jennifer Arnull and Karen Fish for giving up their time to assist me in supporting the scouts, both before and on the day.
