Almost 350 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorer Scouts, Leaders and helpers from 11 groups across the district attended this year’s fire evacuation at the Odeon Cinema in Norwich. As last year, we had been given the opportunity to assist their staff in a “real life practise evacuation” of the cinema.
Having all arrived in Riverside at 8.30 in the morning we entered the cinema and took a seat in the various screens. We then heard the alarm and cinema staff entered to ask us to evacuate. In an incredibly orderly fashion we all left the screens and gathered in the foyer for the necessary head count. Once the staff had satisfied themselves that the screens had been totally evacuated the leaders collected the popcorn and drinks and we all settled down to watch the film. When the staff announced the film we were to watch there was a cheer of delight ‐ our reward was a free viewing of “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2”.
Mary Wiisby, General Manager of the Odeon Cinema told me afterwards that the event was a massive success from their viewpoint and has offered us the chance to get involved again in 2014.
Thanks to the all of leaders who gave up their Saturday morning to support this event ‐ whilst the parents no doubt took advantage of the time to do Christmas shopping!
