Celebrating Scouting Achievements

Celebrating Scouting Achievements

IMG_7295The district were delighted that actor Graham Cole was able to join them at our “Celebration of Scouting Achievements” awards evening at St Catherine’s Church, Aylsham Road on Friday 14th March.

Graham, who is probably best known for his many years performing in the role of PC Tony Stamp in the Thames Television series “The Bill” had come along to presented certificates and awards to 60 young people from the Scout District who had achieved their Chief Scout’s Bronze, Silver and Gold awards. He also made presentations to Sophie Daniel, Ryan High and Luke Edmunds who had all completed their Young Leader training and the Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award to James Ivett.

Graham moved to Norfolk about 18 months ago and was previously a supporter of scouting in London. He has been involved for many years with the charity Childline and he told the audience of parents and family about his work with this charity.

IMG_7294Caz Barr, District Commissioner said “I am delighted that Graham volunteered to come along this evening to make the presentations to our members. The young people had no idea when they arrived that the presentations would be made by him and I am sure that they and their families and supporters will remember this occasion for many years to come.”

She went on to say “Scouting has good values and offers many wonderful opportunities for young people to develop in so many ways. The young people go to school and tell their friends about the fantastic experiences they have and this in turn has led to an increased number of young people on our “Want to Join” list. All of the adults are volunteers; they give up their time regularly to give opportunities for the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorer Scouts to take part in a variety of activities and camps. I cannot thank them enough for everything they do to make scouting successful in Northern Norwich. I hope that in the coming months more adults will want to get involved so that we can offer more and more young people the opportunity to be part of scouting.”

The awards evenings, which are held twice a year, recognise the achievements of young people in Northern Norwich and have been arranged by the district since July 2012.
