Two teams from Northern Norwich represented the District at the County Shooting Competition which was held at Taverham on the 26th September. This year the format for the competition was changed with the introduction of rifle kneeling and rifle prone in addition to the rifle standing and pistols disciplines of previous years.
15 teams took part in the competition and I am delighted to say that Northern Norwich “A” team won the competition with a total score of 1575. This was the third consecutive year that the District have won the shield.
The team members were:
Louis Drane (16th Norwich)
Thomas Moye (27th Norwich)
Jared Stanton (1st Horsford & St Faiths)
Will Dawber (2nd Hellesdon)
The Northern Norwich “B” team also achieved a podium position, finishing in a creditable 3rd in a very good competition.
In addition to a team competition there was also an individual competition where, from a total of 60 participants, our team members all did really well.
Louis finished first with a score of 163 points while Thomas was equal 2nd only 1 point behind on 162. In addition Will was 4th and Jared 8th.
Of note:
In addition, two members of the “B” team performed really well with Rory Caley (44th Norwich) being the highest scorer in the rifle prone competition and Lewis Martin (44th Norwich) coming 3rd in the rifle standing competition.
I would like thank the leaders from this District who help the scouts to prepare for the District and County shooting events. Without their support and expertise the events would not be able to take place and we would not be here today recognising the achievements of these young people.
