Explorer Success in BPA event

What is BPA?

BPA is an annual overnight multi-activity adventure hike in Norfolk. It is open to Explorer Scout and Network Scouts teams from around the county. The annual event celebrates the birth of the founder of scouting – Lord Robert Baden Powell and is a real challenge.

Each team must complete a walk of around 30km (19 miles). On route there are four zones. At each zone the teams must complete three challenges. Points are awarded for arrival and departure at the zone activities, leadership, teamwork, completing challenges and for conduct throughout.  There are also checkpoints along the route where more points can be picked up.  Finally, all this must be done in only twelve hours!

To add to the challenge, BPA is held in a different location each year.  This year it was held in North West Norfolk and on the Sandringham Estate on a fine dry night.

Northern Norwich entered three teams and were delighted when they had the winning team and also the runners up.  The winning team “Reginald’s Men” from HAndS ESU were David Scott, Georgie Burton, Alex Slaughter, James Gunn, Isobel Wilkinson and Ryan Hobson.  The runner up team “Joint Effort” were Jack Hendry and Ben Graves from Nelson Victory ESU and Tom Cripps and Ted Carlisle from Amhibians ESU.  These four  Explorers organised their team by text and email and met for the first time on the night and quickly formed a great team.

Congratulations to the Explorer Scouts and also thanks to leaders from the District who supported the event.
