Beaver Trip to Holt Country Park

Saturday 30^th September saw 88 Beaver Scouts and 30 Leaders from Northern Norwich District arriving at Holt Country Park in two coaches for the District day out.

Annie Gedge and her team of Rangers had put together a programme of activities, the first of which was shelter building.  The Beavers and Leaders were split into 8 teams and were given gloves and instructions to make a shelter out of natural materials which had to be able to withstand some water.  All the groups had fun making their shelters and many of them did not get wet!!

Next was an early lunch in readiness for the hectic afternoon of activities which included:

Bug hunting where the Beavers were given bug viewers and investigated a designated area for insects and they found lots of different species!!

Orienteering this was quite a challenging activity with many of the groups only being able to find a few of the “numbers” dotted around the Park, but the all had fun trying!!

Guided Walk around the Park – This was led by one of the Rangers.  It was quite a long walk around the Park but the Beavers learnt a lot about the Park and its wildlife.

Craft Activities in the picnic area.  The Beavers could make bird feeders out of pine cones and lard, colour in mask or make hanging owls from CDs, card and feathers.

This was the last District activity to be organised by Rochelle Smith, the ADC Beavers who was stepping down from the role at the end of the event.  District Commissioner, Lisa Wright, presented Rochelle with some flowers and a card, in appreciation of her work with the Section over the past 4 years.

After a busy day we thanked Annie and her team and boarded the coaches ready for the journey home.   Some fell asleep, while others were just glad to sit down!
