Explorer Winter Camp, Roughton Mill, 4th-6th January 2019

It’s that time again when the Northern Norwich Explorers head north to Roughton Mill for their annual WinterCamp.

It was a busy weekend with the Explorers setting off from the Mill on Saturday at 9am, walking into Cromer for the day very well wrapped up against the cold. A tour of St Peter’s and St Paul’s church in Cromer came with an opportunity to enjoy the views from the top of the church tower (very blustery up there!), then on to the LifeBoat Station to learn about the lives and experiences of these volunteers, with an added bonus of seeing the launch. A hot lunch was enjoyed at The Jetty Café – the staff kindly opened especially – and some free time before meeting at the Pier to begin a Geology Walk along the beach, learning all about Glacial Till and the Chromatic Era … amongst much more!

Hungry, and I’ll admit it even if the Explorers won’t a little tired, we arrived back in time for a couple of games of Bingo before dinner, and how lucky was Charlie!

As has become customary on the Camp, Saturday evening sees all of the Explorers throwing some moves with Nintendo Wii – Dance. Despite being limited to a small number of controllers, the Explorers are undeterred and all joined in!

On Sunday we had a later breakfast, followed by a long morning rotating around 4 activities: Shooting, Axe Throwing, Catapults and Paracord Survival Bands. After a late lunch we broke Camp and got set ready for home.

A great bunch of young people, enjoying spending time together – it’s what Scouting is all about.

Lisa.
