Happy New Year – a message from our District Commissioner

Happy New Year!

I hope you have all enjoyed the time spent with family, friends and loved ones over the festive period and are looking forward to all the new year brings.

It’s at this time when preparing to return to work, beginning the new term of school, that I’m reminded that all of you – our Scouting volunteers – are also preparing for the new Scouting term too.

At the beginning of December following our District Christmas Social, I attended the 11 th Norwich Carol Service – an annual fixture in my calendar and does mark the beginning of Advent for me as we all start gearing up for the festive period.

During a whistle-stop tour of a few Scout Troop meetings on the Friday evening during the last week of term there was, as you’d expect, much going on – there were the expected Christmas
parties in full swing with traditional games and quizzes, plans being finalised at a Troop meeting to visit a local home over the weekend to spend time with residents and spread a little Scouting
joy, the camp fire was already lit and being enjoyed at a Christmas Camp, at another finishing touches were being made to Christmas Cakes baked the previous week on Camp and one Troop
had been cooking and were celebrating the achievement of a Gold Award for a former Scout who had recently moved on to Explorers.

Importantly in all of the ‘busy-ness’ and activities being enjoyed by our young people in the District I was struck by the sense of belonging and friendship which we all enjoy being part of our Scouting family….lots of chatter and lots of smiles on faces – young and not so young!

I’d sincerely like to thank all of our volunteers in Northern Norwich for all that you have achieved this year and all that you have given so willingly in 2018 to support Scouting in our District. Thank you.

I hope you look forward eagerly to what the new year brings and what 2019 has in store.

I’ll be away with over 30 of the Explorers from the District on their annual WinterCamp to Roughton this coming weekend, and we have a District Camp meeting on Monday to further
arrangements for this key event on our District calendar for 2019…..and so it begins!

I do wish you all a very happy, healthy new year and look forward to catching up with you all very soon.

Lisa.
