WAM 2019

WAM 2019

Friday 7th June – Sunday 9th June

One of the key events in our Scout Calendar each year is our WAM Camp!

Taking place at Decoy Broad at the end of Volunteer Week, just over 100 Scouts from nine of our District Groups enjoyed a weekend packed full of activities – both land and water – supported by a small army of adult volunteers.

Taking place at Decoy Broad at the end of Volunteer Week, just over 100 Scouts from nine of our District Groups enjoyed a weekend packed full of activities – both land and water – supported by a small army of adult volunteers.

Activities included; Rafting, Kayaks, Sit-Ons, Sailing, Bell Boats, Crate Stacking, Shooting, Tomahawks, Caving and Craft

Despite the rain on Saturday, the Scouts enjoyed the activities on offer showing great resilience to ‘just get on with it’ and the Leaders leading the activities did likewise!

Credit to those leading activities to keep spirits high and to those back at the camps managing the additional volume of wet clothing and chilly Scouts! It’s been a number of years since we’ve been unlucky with the weather, but several mugs of hot chocolate were enjoyed in the breaks to ensure Scouts and Leaders kept warm.

Saturday was rounded off with a welcome warm around the camp fire with each Scout Troop performing in turn.

Sunday dawned ….. bright and sunny – what a difference a day makes!

The Scouts Own led by Peter (16th ) gave us all time to reflect on what Scouting means to us and the impact it has on lives of young people and adults alike.

The sun continued to shine and the warmth of the sun ensured the canvas was nice and dry when we broke camp at 14:15.

I’d like to thank again Simon (3rd&4th) for leading the camp, and of course all of our adult volunteers who supported this eagerly anticipated event whether on activities or at camp ensuring all were fed and watered – we couldn’t do it without you and I know the Scouts appreciate the opportunities the Camp gives.

What a fitting tribute to volunteering in Scouting.

Thank you.

Lisa
